Topic: Career Clinic
Abstract:You have had substantial accomplishments since you graduated from college. However, sometimes you wonder if there is more you can do to make your work life more fulfilling, more interesting, more financially rewarding, etc. Some other times, you wonder if the career you have chosen is what you would like to continue the rest of your work life. Most of us have a technical degree and we end up in technical roles in a company, either as an individual contributor or as a manager. Some of our friends have gone back to school and received an MBA. The results as we perceive it are mixed – for some, you see a clear value, for others not so much. So, you wonder if getting an MBA is worth the time, effort and money. Some other friends of ours have left the cushy, comfortable, corporate jobs and launched companies. Again, some have had spectacular success, while others appear to be ‘hanging in there’. Thinking about your career trajectory can be confusing at times. Then there is the all-important ‘family equation’ to take into consideration for any decision you make – since, let’s face it, they are the most affected with any career changes you make. These are deeply personal matters and you wish you had a confidant, a coach -- you can trust your thoughts and judgments and who could provide an unbiased opinion in your best interest. So, we are here to listen to your ideas and thought. You will have others who may have similar career trajectories with whom you can relate to. We would like to spend an hour at this Round Table to have an open discussion about this.
