Welcome to the website of the alumni of the NIT’s (National Institutes of Technology) of India.

The NIT family consists of 19institutes of higher education in engineering and management. These institutes were previously known as Regional Engineering Colleges (REC).

The NIT’s have a glorious past - The concept of Regional Engineering Colleges was conceived by India’s most respected and beloved Prime Minister - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Infact it was Pandit Nehru who laid the foundation stone for the first REC at Warangal on October 10,1959. The youngest member of the NIT family is the “Dr. B.R.Ambedkar National Institute of Technology” which was set up in 1987 in the industrial city of Jalandhar in Punjab.

In 2002-2003 - all the REC's were re-designated as National Institutes of Technology - to reflect more aptly the national character of these institutes. All the NIT's were given the honorary status of "Deemed University" - This is an acknowledgement of not only the transformation of these institutions as centers of learning and excellence in the fields of engineering and management but also of the significant contribution of these institutions to India's economic and social progress. At this time two more engineering institutes were awarded the status of NIT.

Each year more than 5000 students from all over the country enter these institutions through one of the most competitive selection process - and after four year of intense learning - these students graduate from the NIT's - ready to make a change in the lives of people around them and in the communities in which they live. This site is the web home of these students – the Alumni of the National Institutes of Technology.
